Video Transcription and Transcription with Time-codes

What is a Time Coded Transcript?

Here at Transcription City, we offer a range of transcription services and transcript styles depending on our clients’ needs. One of our most popular transcript styles is our time-coded transcript. These are often requested for video transcription or transcripts produced for research purposes, but what is a time coded transcript and why might you want one? Let’s find out!
A time-coded transcript is a transcript that includes time codes, either at regular intervals (say every 30-60 seconds) or every speaker change. The frequency of the time codes very much depends on what you are using them for. For example, if a client wants a time coded transcript for video editing purposes, it is pretty much standard to include time codes at 30 second intervals, but if a client wants time codes included simply so that they can find a sentence within the audio without having to listen through the entire file, they may request a time code to be included at 60 or 90 second intervals.

Transcription for Subtitles

A variation on a time-coded transcript is a subtitle file. This is basically very similar to a time-coded transcript, but includes very regular and precise time codes in order to match up exactly with the video or audio file that it is being transcribed from. Generally subtitle files will include time codes for every 35 characters with both an ‘in’ and ‘out’ time code. Currently, we provide .srt and .ssa subtitle files for web videos, which are a great way to make your videos accessible to those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Subtitle files can also be easily translated into a number of different languages, so that the content of your videos can be enjoyed by people all over the world!
