Urgent Closed Captioning Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Urgent Closed Captioning Services | Urgent Subtitling ServicesIt is essential that closed captioning is available for deaf or hearing impaired viewers of online video or broadcast media. Without closed captions, viewers who are hard of hearing or deaf are unable to enjoy the full viewing experience. We believe that online and offline content should be accessible to all viewers whether watching online video (such as Netflix, Amazon video, YouTube or Vimeo) as well as broadcast media, such as teretrial television, cable and satalite video. We offer a range of urgent closed captioning services for the deaf and hard of hearing (in a range of caption file formats), which include realtime captioning and live captioning for live events and television (both online and offline). We also offer online video captioning in the form of .srt and .vtt files for online video that has a very short turnaround time. We do urge you to book with as much notice as possible to avoid disappointment.

Urgent Subtitling Services

If you wish to use an urgent subtitling service, then it is essential that you use the right transcription company. Video files will be transcribed and then timed to ensure accuracy. Then, if required we also provide urgent translation services, which can be applied to your video in a range of languages.

Urgent Closed Captioning Services – Things to be aware of…

  • Depending on your required turnaround time, we can provide closed captioning services using speech recognition software and/or automatic timings. These can be used with limited success and while they don’t produce the best quality subtitles, they can be used in conjunction with a human proofreader to produce urgent subtiiling services at a pinch.
  • If your files are under an hour long, we can most likely do the whole process manually within 24 hours. However, whilst this produces a higher quality subtitle or caption file, it is more expensive than automatic captioning services.
  • If you have a transcript of your video, we can use automatic timing software to produce the show/in and hide/out times of your subtitles. This is faster and cheaper than manual timing services, but again, is less accurate.
  • We can time subtitles and captions in a range of file formats. However, the most popular for web video is either .srt subtitles (which can’t be styled) or .vtt subtitles(where the client has options in regards to text size, position, and colour) .vtt subtitles are more expensive and take slightly longer to produce.

Some Technical Information on Subtitling and Closed Captioning

Reading speeds for closed captioning should be approximately 200 to no more than 245 words per video minute for optimum readability. Any faster than that and the audience will struggle to follow the text properly. This works out at around 35-40 characters per subtitle line. A single caption or subtitle should remain onscreen for an optimum time of two seconds. For children who are deaf or hard of hearing, reading speed is around 180 – 200 words per video minute, 30-35 characters per line and 2-3 seconds viewing time per single caption line.
